I accidently hit my CD ROM tray with my foot. THis caused it to become stuck. I took it apart, however whenI replaced tray, the timing now appears to be off and it either stays open or doesn' open at all, depending on where the gears are when I put the tray on the tracks. I also can't get the laser to come up at the right time.
Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks in advance.
P.S. Can you believe I did this.

Looks like it's time to head to Comp USA or somewhere similar and pick out a new CD ROM...
CSO (http://www.computersurplusoutlet.com) might be worth a look if you want a good price online...Can't tell you much more, when it gets into that kind of shape, about the only thing you can do is replace it.

If you had everything...Where would you put it?

Heh heh... I spent an entire evening trying to fix a friends CD tray that had a similar problem. I never did get it to work right.

jrush1: Don't feel too bad about breaking your CDROM - it can happen to anyone! Once I laid a brand-new 128MB DIMM on the floor while working on a PC, then my parrot flew across the room and the wind from his wings blew some bubblewrap on top of it. Went to get the bird and stepped right on the DIMM (cost about $179 then!). Another time I laid my power screwdriver on the table, where it rolled over onto a motherboard I had just removed from a friend's case. By the time I noticed the magnetized tip contacting the board it was too late, and I got to buy my friend a new motherboard ($119).
Just part of the "fun" of computers, I guess... http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/wink.gif
