This is the first batch file I've ever used/created/modified, (except AUTOEXEC.BAT). It doesn't really do anything to the computer, but it can fool folks. For the best effect, run it in full screen, (alt+enter). :D

Do you guys really have nothing better to do than try to make people's lives miserable?? Please think about how you would feel if someone ran a scam on you...

Heh, relax man. Really, all I wanted to do was create my own script.

A malicious script that you then post on the web for anyone who comes along to use it and cause other people distress... If you want to create a script, why not one that is helpful?? I spend a lot of time dealing with people who have their computers tampered with and I don't relax real well about those kinds of things...

Budfred im not looking for an argument but its just a practical joke, i dosn't harm the PC and you can simply "X" it off.
im sure that when people (after they have been told) will find it funny themselves and do the same

I am sure your buddies would find it funny... However, you have posted it in a public forum and you have no way to know where it will end up... A lot of people out there simply tolerate computers and anything that makes them believe that they have a problem leads to things like paying the Geek Squad $100 to check it out and make sure it isn't infected... Or sometimes they simply buy a new computer because they think it is a lost cause... Do you know that whoever chooses to use your little file will tell the victim?? Do you know that it won't lead to harm??

I specified that it doesn't really do any harm to the computer. I see your point now, Budfred.

I removed the two files, took me a couple of tries to figure out how...
Don't post any more of this nonsense. It may be a prank to you but it's a headache to someone else, and as mentioned already it might cause someone to spend a lot of money on unnecessary repairs. That's not what we're here for.

No problem, it happens, and sorry if I sounded a bit heavy handed there. Re-reading it just now I think I might have come across a bit more dictatorial than I intended.

Post the source code here (if that's okay with the mods). Or PM it to me, I want to see how you wrote it.
It's not like posting a batch file on an IT website is going to cause a huge explosion of hax0r pranks on people. Writing batch files is almost common knowledge. I've written batch files for my school that block games and such, and I've also written batch files that will wipe your hard drive. Even if you take down the "malicious" file, what would stop people like me from writing another one? I'm sorry, not trying to be a smart alec but honestly.

It's not alright with the mods - as should be obvious from reading this thread.

What you PM back and forth to each other is between the two of you...
The point is, that this site is primarily geared towards solving computer headaches not creating more, even if it is in jest. We have always, at least for the seven years I've been here, done this kind of thing...we are very careful about what goes up, because this is an open forum and we strive to behave accordingly (emphasis on strive).

Doesn't playing around with headaches, reading the source code, and analyzing the social engineering behind something like this help us solve problems, though? The more I make batch file pranks, drop RATs and mess around in the "blackhat" arena the better I become at fixing problems myself and others have.

Which is all very true...but at the same time, keeping off the board helps to keep the posters, many of whom are not very computer literate or skilled in those areas less confused and less likely to get into more trouble...
It's not about NOT doing that, it is about keeping behind the scenes. PM, the chat room and emails are the areas where that kind of thing should be discussed, not the main board...this was a policy decision made many years ago.
The whole problem with this thread was the posting of the files without approval. Files that could be considered in poor taste (at the very least) or worse. The original poster could have posted about them and asked to have someone look at them or could have described in detail about what they did and provided explicit warnings...especially saying that what they did was not harmful and how to undo it. That possibly would have been enough to not raise the ire of the mods.
