BIG problem with video playback

ok i have had my new card (8800GTX :D) for a few days now and i have been only on games, i came to watch a movie i had downloaded and the screen was black (it had sound) and sometimes i could see a slight DARK off colours (almost like putting your PC to 8 bit colour). is it a driver problem? or is the card faulty?

i have tryed NERO SHOWTIME, WMP 11 and VLC
i have the latest drivers from Nvidia
also i have tried different movies

Your problem may actually be the video...

Have you tried watching anything else...like a retail disk?

hey all

I am having the SAME problem as George. I have a new Dell with a 8800 GTX video card. After playing games, the video playback will be dark or black with neon colors. It lasts only for a few minutes though, or upon reboot will return to normal. This is most definately a video card or driver problem. I AM PSSD OFF. this should not be happening. I also updated the drivers and no luck.

Anyone have a suggestion?

Does the same thing happen when you try to play a DVD? What formats are you playing your videos in, i.e avi, mpeg, etc.

all video files (not sure about quicktime) and yes even retail discs... i had it working last night and today it doest work

That's odd! :confused: I haven't had that problem yet. Have you tried older drivers? Have you tried fiddling with the NVidia control panel?

not tried older drivers but the way thats seems to get it back to normal is running the "Run display optimization wizard" in the Nvidia control panel and i can live with doing that every time i want to watch a movie :p

Yeah, if it is all file formats, it wasn't a codec problem, like I was thinking. Since you said that I wasn't going to have you the codec hunt. I agree with Saph...try the older drivers, because it sounds like a driver problem (or check video overlay settings....)

Have you tried the "latest" drivers as in the latest WHQL-certified ones, or are you using the new Bioshock-oriented beta drivers? Also, which OS?

nah im using the normal drivers i didnt want to use the beta one's.
also what do these bioshock ones do? i have played the Bioshock demo yesterday (toooo short 2GB for 20mins of play) it seemed like there was no AA enabled so the quality wasnt to good?

and im using XP home SP2

The real game forces you download and install the beta NVidia drivers or it just plain won't install! Apparently, these are the latest & greatest drivers from NVidia - unified driver architecture again and just a few weeks from "official" status. I don't know much more about them.

[Nvidia Solution]

The problem is because of Nvidias color tempereature correction.
I have a Swedish version of XP and Nvidia drivers, I tried to translate in, it may not say the exact same thing. The important thin is just to SHUT THE COLOR TEMPERATURE CORRECTION OFF!

Open Nvidias control panel

Make sure ure in Advanced mode. If u are not, just chose "Advanced settings" to the right of ure green back and forward arrows.

When in Advanced mode chose "Adjust color video settings".

Chose the tab "Action".

There are 5 radio burrons, chose the top one "Do not use color temperature correction".

It then started messing up the top right corner of all the videos I played

Problem:
No matter what Video I play (no matter what encoded format), it partly lags. To be more precise, the upper right corner lag. It looks as if someone cut the screen in \ in the right corner. This area is increased when using the latest driver, and is decreased while using 97.94.
This area I'm talking about has a delay, meaning it's a few frames behind. When using 97.94, you could just see some delay (half or one frame behind), but with the newer one, it's two different pictures, massive lag.


CCCP staff here.

Solution to the problem is as follows: Go Start -> Programs -> CCCP -> ffdshow video -> Output (left side, all the way down). Check YV12 there and apply.
This works too of course if you have ffdshow installed separately. For any other decoder make sure it isn't feeding your vidcard yuy2 but yv12.

This is a known driver problem with all 8800 series cards using 158.19 driver (maybe newer too, would be nice if someone could confirm). For some reason nvidia messed up the YUY2 colorspace conversion. Not a big problem though as virtually all MPEG video is natively YV12 anyway, so that enabling it even gives a speed boost to playback.
This option is disabled in CCCP by default because very old vidcards have problems with YV12 but can handle YUY2. In the next release YV12 will be enabled by default as said old cards are on the verge of extinction anyway.

And still another solution
IF your monitor will withstand it
Under display properties, Settings,Advanced button
Monitor tab,Screen refresh rate
Bump it up a notch
For example from 60 to 75
In one case I had to remove the check mark from the Hide modes that this monitor cannot display

BTW.
Under Vista it lists 60 and 75
Under XP it only listed 60

Setting it to 75 in both cured the chop

I should also add that I am using driver ver.1.5827
