that sounds like your boot files are corrupt, missing, etc. It is looking for the boot file command.com. You had this computer worked on professionally? If you brought it home and this is what it started doing, take it back, and demand it get fixed right. Obviously if you got a new hard drive, they loaded windows back in, and it is not loaded right. It is their responsibility to fix it, and if they refuse, you have grounds for a lawsuit. I have been down this road, there is a computer repair place in Lima that has been pelted with lawsuits because of things similar to this, they install hardware, and they don't install it properly, then they try to charge to fix it too. An aquatance of mine is currently suing them...

I'd have to ask: who changed your hard drive? What did they do? And why aren't they helping you fix whatever it is they did? http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/wink.gif

If you type 'win' without the quotes at the command prompt does it load windows? If so then I suspect there is a line in your autoexec.bat file that is causing the problem. If that is the case, post back with the contents of that file.

ok, so this is a new hard drive. I don't know how much of the following you have done, so please tell us.

Use boot disk to get to the dos prompt. Use fdisk to make sure there is a primary partition c:. Format the c: drive. switch to cd rom drive, load windows.

The key if it is a brand new hard drive is running fdisk to make sure it has been partitioned to have at least one fat partition (or fat32). Sometimes I get new hard drives in already setup with a partiton in fat 32, but most of the time they are unpartitioned. At any rate, I don't understand if this is a problem after loading windows, or what, but if you just loaded windows and you never formated c:, do that first, then relaod windows. More info please.

Your answer above, to the question what did they do isn't too clear. Did the company simply install the hard drive and give it to you to install windows?

At any rate, it sounds like you need to fdisk and format the drive before it can be used. Here's a website or two you might find helpful with getting it back up and running:

Quick Guide to a Fresh Start ( http://www.hardwarehell.com/fdisk.htm) has the basics, and How to fdisk a Hard Drive (http://www.sybercom.net/jtmurphy/page11.htm) has detailed instructions for running fdisk.

Use FAT 32, as mentioned above, and make sure you use the /s switch when formatting the drive. That will transfer the system files to the hard drive and make it bootable.

If you had everything...Where would you put it?
