DVD burner problem

i hv an LG DVD burner.....whenever i insert a DVD or CD.....my computer gets stucked/hang when it starts reading the contents.......

plz someone help me fix this problem........

How old is the drive?

If it is more than a couple of years old, it probably isn't worth trying to do anything with it. If it is less than a year old, see if you have any warranty left on it. Either the laser head is out of alignment, dirty or the disk is not reaching proper speed or it is spinning erratically. (this only applies if the problem is happening fro EVERY disk you insert)

If it only happens on some disks, then make sure the problem disks are not dirty or scratched.

had purchased it in jan this year......and yes i do have this problem with every CD and DVD i play in it.....'ll find about its warranty.....

i have a warranty of one year on it......i had connected it to my brother's PC n it gave no problems while reading CD's n DVD's......everything was just working fine........

What may be the problem when I connect It with MY PC......??

Works in your brother's but not in your pc? Uhoh,,, does 'rootkit' come to anyone's mind but mine? Did it ever work in your pc?

First, remove all your burning and dvd watching softwares. Then try removing the drive from Device Manager with it still physically in your pc and rebooting. Then if needed, reinstall the softwares and see how it performs then.

If still a no-go, then we can look for malware brought to us courtesy of SONY :rolleyes:

i have found out the problem.......its my graphics card or its drivers......
because yesterday when i formated my machine and before installing my graphics card drivers, i.e when i was installing mobo drivers from the CD,my DVD rom was working fine.

To confirm with the problem i installed graphics drivers and inserted a few disk and again my rom gave the same problem...then i uninstalled all the graphics drivers n inserted the same set of disk..... and it dint give any problems.....

so i thought of installing a fresh copy of drivers from nVidia site.....(and did)
But on change.....(DVD rom gave same problems).....

donno how but one of them is giving problems....??????

any solution on What to do next.....??????

That is rather odd...

Are you installing ANY programs between the time you do a fresh install of Windows and installing any drivers?

Playing ANY retail disks?

Total shut down of the drive sounds like either a hardware problem (but only if it is repeatable) or a DRM/copy protection scheme not working properly (or, in my opinion...working too well).

no i directly install my Asus mobo drivers after starting windows XP for first time after fresh install.......

"retail disks"....in the sense....(original CD and DVD's of movies etc)...if yes i hv played both disc burn by me and retail....and gives the same problem(drive)

so is the hardware problem with graphics card or mobo.....????

Would any of the retail disks be about year to two year old Sony products?

DRM/copy protection schemes are designed to prevent unauthorized copying of digital media and sometimes things go wrong and they prevent ALL copying, whether it is the original 'protected' content or not...

One of the symptoms of such a problem is the drive not working, especially to 'burn' in one machine, but works flawlessly in another. There are other symptoms, like the burn may start, but fail for some unknown reason, the burning software may start and immediately close, etc...
