I have disabled the fast shutdown feature to correct a stubborn shutdown problem. Can you tell me exactly what the fast shutdown is for and does it matter if it is kept disabled permanently? Tanks in advance for your reply.

I had to disable mine as well. On my system it was dissallowing me to 'restart...it would just stop at the "windows is shutting down" window and do nothing.. I would need to cold or force boot.......

My pc shuts down and restarts quick, clean and Fast now, and I'm not gonna change it !! http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/smile.gif

As for what it is for or was Im certain someone here knows all that....

Quick Shutdown isnt so much a thing as it is a ...procedure.
Normal shutdown kills all device drivers from memory before it shuts down.
Quick shutdown does not. This causes problems when certain devices cause the system to hang because a process wont die. I think MS added this because ppl got tired of rebooting MS 100x a day to reallocate memory and waiting 30 extra seconds for drivers to unload http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/smile.gif Laters...
