Can someone help me,

My computer is Acer Pentium 4, Windows XP professional
When I on my computer, it says 'msssing operation system' and i can't start in safe mode so i decide to use my Acer recovery disks to reinstall windows XP and reinstall everything, but during the installation, when the computer restart, it says
'Verifying DMI Pool Data.... Update success
Boot from ATAPI CD-ROM
Boot from ATAPI CD-ROM
Disk error press any key to restart'
so i press any key
'Disk boot failure, insert system disk and press enter'

so i insert the Acer recovery disk, then it start loading
'Boot from ATAPI
1. FD 1.44MB System Type-(19)
Starting Windows 98........
and a lot of words

then when it come to the Acer recovery screen, but it then says
'Data error reading Drive C '
'Abort, Retry, Fail'
i tried R and F and no use, so i tried A
and then it says 'A:\>'
i saw on the internet, people said type fdisk

so i typed fdisk and it says that there is one fixed drive
so does that mean that my harddrive is okay , then what is the problem?
i also typed other command, like fdisk \mbr but it says bad command name

i saw in internet, people say using a bootable floopy disk, but i don't have one, my another computer does not have a floppy drive so i can't make one

What should i do

Thanks

It is very likely that your hard drive is NOT fine...you need to find out who manufactured it, then download their diagnostic utilities (most of them come in a CD format, these days). After you get them onto a disk (either a CD or floppy--yeah kind of hard to do with a floppy drive in the working machine), you need to run at least the basic tests.

Thanks for your help, my harddisk is Maxtor, i downloaded the diagnostic utility but, i had problems
when i run the short test, it says 'drive has been overtemp 253'
but i continued the test, but it failed
i connected the long test, it also says 'drive has been overtemp 253'
and the test failed again

so what should i do now?

Thanks

If it has failed both the short and long tests, well, the best thing to do is to get a new drive, because that one should be pushing up daisies. The drive is dead.

It looks, from what you've posted, that the drive has died a 'hot' death...in other words it was overheating, at least 253 times. If there is any data on the drive that you may want, do not use it...in fact you should disconnect it from the computer, do not attempt to reinstall anything, do not attempt to do anything at all with it...until you have a replacement drive in place and a working install of Windows. After that, then you may try to run some programs...if the BIOS will still recognize it.

But, at this point there is little else to do, other than replace the drive.
