Boot into safe mode (tap F8 while booting or turnon the starup menu: I found that the easiest way to get the startup menu (on a system that boots with no problems) is to goto Start Menu -> Run -> msconfig (enter) msconfig -> general -> advanced -> "enable startup menu". Check the box and then every time you boot the startup menu will appear first, after your done troubleshooting go back and turn off the start menu. Choose option 3 Safe mode. Then right click on 'My computer' select properties 'Device Manager' will come up then selet the cdrom category if there is more than one of each type there then delete them all and reboot Windows should detect them again (you may need to tell windows where to look for the drivers so have your installation disks handy and follow the screen prompts).
