audio problem

I am running XP.
For no apparent reason, my system volume is only playing at half the volume it was a few days ago. All volume controls are maxed out. Any suggestions?
I have tried system restore, all drivers seem to be okay. No virus, etc.

1. Check the setting in the driver software for your sound card.
2. Check Device Manager for any yellow ! next to the sound device.
3. Do you have a keyboard that has a volume knob on it ? Also check its software.
