I periodically swap out one computer for another at my school. How do I not lose everything in OUtlook 2002? I've tried copying and pasting the .pst file but it doesn't always work. My goal is that the teacher would have everything in OUtlook on the new machine that was there in the old machine.
Thanks.

Don't know how to do it for Outlook, but here's how I did it for Outlook Express.

1. On the old PC [I also do this on the new] I move all personal data files off C: and onto a small 1 GB D: partition, and [use the appropriate means like "Tweak UI" to] point the various programs at their data files.
This would include the OE emails and address book [plus "My Documents", Desktop, Firefox Profile, IE Favourites & Temporary Internet Files].

2. I make images of all my partitions including D: [on the old PC, and later the new].

3. When moving to the new PC I restore the a recent image of the old PC's D: partition to the new PC's D: partition, so it now has identical copies of all the personal data files.

4. Install Windows and programs onto C: on the new PC and point the programs at their data files.
This makes all the programs work as of old, EXCEPT...
And this is the really important bit...

5. All the OE accounts info FOR ALL THE VARIOUS IDENTITIES must be transferred over from the old to the new [can't remember whether I did that first or second, or whether it matters].
I found HERE on the web (http://www.iopus.com/guides/oe-backup.htm) instructions that I modified slightly and worked wonderfully well to transfer everything in one go.
[except my passwords which I reset manually]

6. I modified instruction 4. Mail Rules as follows:
(a) Instead of trying to maintain the new folder/identity names [that look like this {36753740-2WEE-781D3-89B1-00A0C9900DSA}]...
I maintained the OLD folder numbers.
(b) To do this I changed the new Folder names [on new C:], or made new folders with the correct names if necessary.
The end folders at the old home location holds an avx file that points to the new home [on D: in my case].
e.g. C:\Documents and Settings\[username]\Application Data\Identities\{very long number}\Microsoft\Outlook Express\folders.avx
Points to...
D:\Moved\emails\Identities\[username identity]
(c) Then I think I deleted the inappropriately named keys in the new registry [after exporting to a ged file], and merged the ged file made by exporting the appropriate key [with its sub-branches] from the old registry.
The net result of all of this was registry settings and matching folders and files on C: pointing to copies of the OE files on D:

Does that make any sense to you? :)
