I know how to disable the BIOS virus checker,
i was just looking for a detailed explanation as to what disabling the virus checker does and why.
I have heard that it is maybe somethingto do with the FAT table.
Cheers

Right, the BIOS virus checker basically just prevents access to the boot sector or the FAT w/o your knowledge. Anytime these areas are accessed (whether it be by a virus, or by another program such as a disk partitioner), the computer will prompt you to let you know that the "boot sector is being modified. Proceed?(Y/N)" or something along those lines. Just a nice little security feature to prevent you from wasting a LOT of time re-installing everything to your hard drive. Hope that helped.
