Windows XP has this built in if you both have WindowsXP... Obviously, the other computer has to allow it and you need to set that up before trying it...

Another option that works By phone or network is PC Anywhere

http://www.symantec.com/norton/products/overview.jsp?pcid=pf&pvid=pca121

It is not cheap but it works well
Note Check with Your ISP to see if they allow it's use

It's called remote desktop and I use it all the time. Start->All Programs->Accessories->Communication->Remote desktop Connection

It has to be enabled at the other computer.
R.Click my computer. Click properties. Click Remote tab. Check the box "Allow remote assistance. If you're using windows firewall, need to allow exceptions.

Using this approach, the other user needs to be logged off. If you want to be able to control the other user's desktop without having them log off, look into UltraVNC or something similar.

There is absolutely no need to pay for software that does this, as there are many free applications that have it covered. As always, both solutions require port forwarding at the router. If you're Using M$ SBS, It's even easier since NAT is already set up for you.
