Hi guys

I bought a Toshiba Tecra 8100 off ebay.. August 24th.

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=290152169332

I just got it today..

And it doesnt work..

It turns on and powers on.. but the screen is very dark.. so dark to the point, it is unusable..

its like.. you can see where it says "welcome to windows 2000" if you tip it at the angle.. but.. its not usable..

I can, however, hook it up to my monitor and it works fine..

but that defeats the whole purpose..

It said on the 'net that stuff that could be wrong is the LT Converter or whatever might need cleaned.. or the transducer needs to be clean..

The guy on ebay doesnt have any Instant messengers.. and wants me to call him long distance..
Since money = none, im seein if i can get some free help on here first >_<

But i dont know.. can anyone help? >_<

Basically, you have a laptop that has a bad backlight...probably needs parts replaced as opposed to a simple cleaning.

If you's just bought it you can ask the store for help , there should be some warranty for the laptop/.

I bought it from a guy that buys broken laptops and fixes them.. resells em..

Mine had a broken backlight, missing screws, and im pretty sure the OS is pirated -_-

but anyway, hes gunna send me a new LCD monitor... so.. that part of this should be fixed.. lol...

I would check the hot-keys first. There might be a Fn + other key combo that turns on/off the backlight. Weird stuff like this is all over most laptops.

Dear Azalie, First check your monitor port on it. You can then activate external port by using a hot key on most notebooks , in the process you hold "Fn" and then another key (such as F4) ,the key will normally have a monitor symbol above it.
Most notebooks allow you to press this key to rotate from Internal monitor only, both internal and external and finally external only, each press of the key goes to the next selection. Check this way. I think your problem will be solved
