i just added memory, and everything is working as it should with one exception: the motherboard (I assume) beeps from the time that the "A" drive is checked at boot time for the presencs of a boot disk and keeps on beeping forever.

I start Abit's program ABITEQ which monitors the CPU and FANs temp, voltage etc. and it stops the BEEPs. Simply starting this program will stop the beeps. I started this proggram because when I had it running a while ago, one of the fans stopped and this was the same beep. (The fan has been fixed)

It is a steady BEEP, BEEP, BEEP . it has been like this for about 3 weeks Any and all ideas would be appreciated. william

Whut?

Add RAM = add problem

remove RAM, see what results, or am I from Mars?

Continuous beeping indicates a RAM problem. This would cause the POST to fail and the BIOS to pump out continuous beeps. If the problem stops when the Abit software is running, then the problem is likely to be related to the RAM voltage. What type of RAM was added? What mobo? Is the RAM intended to be used with a voltage higher than JEDEC standard?

or am I from Mars?A little less snappish, please. Obfuscation results from lack of knowledge.

Continuous beeping indicates a RAM problem... Thank you, saphalline, for both replies. They were both on target. I removed and reseated the new memory and everything seems to be fine now. It showed the new memory before and I was able to work as if I had the new RAM, but it must have been off just a little and reseating cleared it.:)
thanks

Glad to hear you fixed it!

Although RAM voltage issues outside of JEDEC standard and reseating RAM don't really have much in common. ;) The first is a BIOS setting issue while the latter is a physical dust/grime build-up issue.
