Hi im new to the boards here and i need a little help. I recently installed some new RAM (2 gigs DDR dual channel) and while that seems to be working great, im now having a sound problem.

When i boot up my computer i can hear everything from movies on WMP to Music and so on. But then after some time (5-10 minutes), all i can hear is static. The strange thing is that i can hear anything on internet explorer or any other browser. I have a Santa Cruz sound card and i updated it to the recent drivers but that didnt help. I did a system restore as well to a working point but no dice. Im fresh out of ideas, so if anyone can help i would really appreciate it.

Thanks in Advance.

Two things that immediately come to mind are RAM voltage and spread spectrum.

Does the RAM you just bought and installed require more than the JEDEC standard 2.5V? And do you have something called "spread spectrum" enabled in your mobo's BIOS?

I dont really know. How would i check those?

The RAM voltage would be an aspect of the RAM you bought. The manufacturer's specs would yield an answer to that one.

The spread spectrum thing is a setting in the BIOS. Just go in there and poke around through all the submenus until you either find it or don't! :p
