Are raid controller cards new, because I remember back to my 386/486 days these machines had controller cards in them, I had heard so much about these ata-66/100MHz cards its very confusing, was there a reason for bring these card out etc. Do these cards fit any hardrive ? whats the advantage ?
I have noticed that Promise seem to of set off the trend. I would be very grateful for your help on theses matters.

RAID has been around for decades, but only the province of high-end servers and workstations until recently, when IDE RAID has grown in popularity.
See http://www.PCGuide.com/ref/hdd/perf/raid for the full scoop.
