View Full Version : Picture Publisher 7 won't install. Why?

OS: Win XP Pro

I have installed Picture Publisher 7 on several different machines with no problem whatsoever from both the CD or a flash drive. It's an old program but it still runs well on any version of Windows including XP.

For some reason I can't install it on my HP Compaq d530 Ultra-slim tower running XP Pro. When I double click in the setup icon I get an hourglass for a few second and then nothing. The setup doesn't launch. I tried the right click and Run As with the same results...nothing. Normally I'll get the InstallShield Wizard at that point allowing me to install the program.

I have used this same flash drive to install Picture Publisher on other machines with no problem. I am logged on to the HP as Administrator with all rights to install software. I disabled the anti-virus to see if that was preventing the installation and still nothing. I even tried setting the compatibility mode to Windows 95 since this is an old program, but still I cannot run setup. The machine does nothing after double clicking the setup icon.

Any ideas? I know the problem isn't my flash drive because I've used it before and as I mentioned, I get the same results (or lack thereof) when installing from the original CD.

Thanks,

Try running it from a command line...

In the Run box, type cmd.

Then navigate by doing cd <whatever drive the install file is on>

Then setup...

It may give you some sort of error message if it doesn't start...

The flash drive is F and the setup is not in a directory. I navigate to F and type setup.exe and press Enter. Nothing. And no error message. I just get the F: prompt again. Strange.
