Compaq/Hp d220m tower, nothing on the monitor when you press the power button on the front, the pcruns for a fewminutes then shuts down by itself, I have to remove and reinsert the power cable for this procedure to happen repeatedly or whenever the pc shuts down. I removed the 1 RAM stick and restarted to check for beeps, I am getting 5 very quick short beeps in sucession, checked computerhope.com but since I don't know which BIOS is in this pc, I am not sure, my guess is the "5 short" beeps which suggests "Process failure", that's as far as I am getting, help?

This page (http://www.bioscentral.com/postcodes/hpbios.htm) says RAM in the HP Vectra section and considering you took out the RAM, well... ;)

It appears to be getting that far, so you will need to start replacing items such as PSU, vid card, CPU etc. Unless you can find a working computer with similar specs to try the core components in, you are stuck in a trial and error situation excepting a PSU tester that can be had for around $6.00, or a repair shop with same.

Well Ted, I am typing this from the problem pc, don't know for sure what's going on, first the led lights on the front looked weak and the processor fan would start spinning upon power up but then stop. Initially reseating the memory stick did not make any difference so I disconnected both optical drives power plugs and then the HDD power plug, it then went to POST so I plugged back in the HDD power plug and this is where I am, I am now going to connect both optical drives power and data cable and test but everything here tells me this is a power problem?

Ahh, I assumed you knew the barebones 'drill' already. Maybe refreshing connections or even the optical drives are/were the problem.

Glad you got it back :)

Yeah, I put back everything and now all pc functions work perfect.
