Hello everyone,
So I just "inherited" a Western Digital Raptor 36GB HDD (WD360ADFD) from a friend.
My current and fully functional (*knocks on wood*) drive is a Western Digital Caviar SE 160GB (WD1600JS).
I plan to wipe each drive clean and start with a fresh installation of Windows Vista.
My question is, which drive should I put the OS on? How about the applications and pagefile? I'm looking for something to maximize the performance for day-to-day use and some gaming.
Thanks for your advice!
For cryin' out loud, it's a RAPTOR...where do you think you should put the OS/swap/everything that can fit?
Sheesh...
:D
Yes, at least the OS and swap should be on the Raptor...and any apps you want to have at max speed.
If it were me, I'd probably make a 1/2 to 1 GB partition and a 35 GB partition...format the small one, but not do anything to it (and make it first). Then install the OS on the large one...

:p
I can never be sure of anything, especially when it comes to computers!
I was kinda under the impression (from researching) that it might be good to put the OS on the raptor and the pagefile on the other hd... but most of that advice assumes two HDs of equal speed. I wasn't sure how much of a speed advantage the Raptor has over the Caviar...
I have to admit it does seem like a no-brainer to put anything that needs to go FAST on the Raptor :)

that it might be good to put the OS on the raptor and the pagefile on the other hdThere's nothing wrong with going that route but if you have loads of RAM it's probably immaterial where you put the pagefile since it will be hardly, if ever, accessed. Raptors, of course, absolutely rock and part of that is due to their high rpm.

I thought I saw someone post that their Ultimate Vista install took up 40gb? I guess the other versions might be smaller and I'm sure you can customize it...
