A word of advice...from M$...don't use the hibernate feature in Windows Me...
No kidding! I had problems early on with Me and my conversations with the M$ techs warned me about hibernate...
When I was downloading with dial-up Me would go into hibernate and upon bootup I would lose modem capabilities...

I don't have Me on any of my computers any more. Do you have an option under the Power Schemes to chose "never" rather than Always on?

You get all the weird ones, don't you?
I can't count how many 9x and ME systems I've had problems with getting to go into Hibernate mode...it had problems with so many device drivers and what not that it wasn't funny.

As I mentioned earlier, the MS folks I talked with told me there were bugs they hadn't worked out yet...and yes, it seemed to have to do with device drivers interfering with the process. They recommended not using it...
1. Click Start, point to Settings, and then click Control Panel.
2. In Control Panel, double-click Power Options.
3. In the Power Options Properties dialog box, click Hibernate.
4. Click to clear the Enable hibernate support check box, and then click OK.
This is from the above link... I'm not sure if this procedure disables it or not

i guess so
3. In the Power Options Properties dialog box, click Hibernate.
4. Click to clear the Enable hibernate support check box, and then click OK.
theres a problems with that
if you looked at the image i posted above, there is no Power Options Properties dialog box, so there is no Hibernate, so there is to Hibernate support check box.

See the screenshot below of my Win2000Pro power management settings available.
I guess both the BIOS and then Windows must support certain power management features for them to available to you within Windows.
Since hibernation configurations aren't available within your Windows OS, perhaps the reason your PC is going into [something like] hibernation...
Is that there are BIOS configurations made within the BIOS Setup telling the BIOS to put the PC into a "Suspend Mode".
It apparently causes problems if the BIOS puts the PC into a suspend mode BEFORE Windows does, so Windows is then unable to un-suspend the system.
My oldest PC's BIOS has the following settings...
Power Management : User Define
PM Control by APM: Yes ..........................[Allows PM function to be controlled by Microsoft APM software]
Suspend Mode: [set a time period value] ....[To set the time delay for suspend mode when Power Management is set to "User Define"]

since you attached that image, there is infact a hibernation tab in Windows 2000 but NOT Windows Me
compare the images
Windows Me

Windows 2000

this one has me stumped...
I was thinking the same as Sylvander about it being a possible BIOS problem. Maybe the computer is too old to allow hibernate and is doing something else such as suggested above. Clearly hibernate is available in ME so...
Just for you,,, I booted into ME on my laptop to show this:

Not only that, I needed to come here as my alter ego after drinking my magic potion...

next problemo
remember when theres that thing
"windows me goes well, it stays stable
or
windows me seems to go well, then all hell breaks loose"
well
all hell broke loose
and now explorer wont stop crashing
so what to do
just kill it?
Drive a stake right through its heart, chop off its head and bury it at a cross roads...
