Hi, hoping someone can help us out here.

I have a wireless network using cable internet. We have 2 desktops and 2 laptops. The 2 laptops connect to my network just fine (automatically) my 2 desktops connect to a neighbors wireless which has limited to no signal. I am running a Netgear WGR614 router and each of the desktops has a Netgear WG111 wireless antenna.

On the laptops I can view all of the available networks but on both desktops (win XP) I cannot. When I try to view available networks I get a "Windows cant configure this wireless connection .......... yadda yadda yadda .... start the wireless zero configuration (WZC).

Anyone here have any advice on how I can get the desktops to show the wireless networks that are available so I can get these 2 machines onto my network?

First
Open and look into the Manage wifi connections area
it should list your neighbors connection

In there change the settings for that connection to manual
That will prevent it from doing the auto connection
Then make sure you have finished the configuration of the cards in each desktop

even if it requires you to use one of the wizards
But you should be able to view/connect wifi from the task bar icon
Once the cards are up and configured correctly

That is an issue because the wifi connections do not show up. When I try to view them I just get the WZC message in the box where it should be showing me all available networks. There was a time when it did show me several different ones and I could just select mine and that was that. Now I get nothing and the pc automatically connects to a neighbors wifi with very low signal and it wont let me override it ???????

At that Point is where you need to go to control panel and use the manage wifi connections..
Disable the auto connect ) change it to manaul

Then you should be able to view other connections

Once connected it should also allow you to disconnect by mouse over or click(rightclick as I recall) on the taskbar network icon
Once disconnected it should also allow you to view other connections.
BUT it only works after you disconnect from the neighbors router/connection

Ok...under the Administrative Tools (Control Panel/Start Menu/however else you can get there) find the Services snap-in and run it...

Check to see that WZC is actually running and since you will be using a wireless network, make sure it is set to Automatic.

Or, you can install the software for the wireless cards, the 'control' program and use it to set up the connections/cards.

I prefer using the included WZC over the card's software, because in this case it is something that M$ has done a good enough job with that using something else is more than redundant...
