Post your desktop with the "PrintScreen" button. Show your desktop, hit the :Printscreen, (Prt Scr) key, open up Paint, (or any other Image editing software), hit "Edit," then "Paste." Save it as anything you'd like. THen go to imageshack (http://www.imageshack.us) and upload the image. Use the tag to paste your picture. That background was created by me with Photoshop.

I'm just curious...there are three desktop widgets (applets) that don't show up using the printscreen function (calendar, to do, and weather). Too bad, they really look nice. Why don't they show?

There's a buttopn called "Prt Scr" next the F12. Press it when you have nothing but your desktop.
Then open up paint, and go to "edit" and "paste." Save it as a .jpeg, (that way you can upload it on imageshack without any file size worries).

This maybe a dumb questuion, but how did you guys change the color scheme? I only have a choice of like 3 colors. I like the dark colored toolbars...
I assume it's some type of theme, but anyone know of a good theme site where I can download them? The ones I've been too I don't trust. I feel if I downloaded one of them it would be scumware city...

Mastik, just so you know in the future, if you didn't already, you can link to it in screenshots from here, too, just like imageshack. At screenshots, right click your image and select properties. Then copy the URL under "Address(URL)" in properties. In the "Reply to Thread" window here, click "Insert Image" and put the URL in the box that pops up. Hope that helps. Here's your image:

I think I'll pas on the OSX Dock, too much "noise" for a minimalist like me. However, the Longhorn Transformation Pack looks interesting. I have a question though, because I'm a little wary. How easy or difficult is it to undo that should you not like it? The instructions on that website make it sound like it will be a bit hazardous and a bit of a pian--someting along the lines of, if you want to make changes after you do the initial transformation, you have to uninstall the pack and restore your original configuration. And naturally, they suggest backing up your system beforehand.
123456
09-11-2005, 01:02 PM
I read that you can just remove it in the "add/remove" programs list. But it let's you switch back to the XP taskbar/classic if you want them.

I very nearly had my first infection in years. Two days ago I downloaded that Longhorn Transformation Pack zip file via the link that 123456 posted. I did not unzip/install it. Today I did a scan using Kapersky online scan and it says 12 of the files in the zip archive contain a new virus/trojan called Trojan-Downloader.JS.Small.bu. McCafee and NOD32 call it HTML/Exploit.HelpXSite.A or minor variations of that.
It looks like this is a brand new threat just added to virus/trojan databases in the last few days. My advice is don't download the pack, don't install it if you did--delete it, and definitely scan your system if you used or went to that site.

If you download any themes from themexp.org almost all of them have adware or spyware ie. Gator lurking inside of them!
Look for the red* after the contributor's user name above each thumbnail of the desktop image
* This author has generously allowed us to wrap this file to help keep our costs down. Click here (http://themexp.org/about_wrap.php) for more information.
StyleXP is shareware and it costs $19.95 if you want to keep using it for more than the 30 day trial period.
Aston Shell is also shareware and it costs $28.00 if you want to keep using it for more than the trial period.

It is 'Compiz Fusion'. You need to have your proprietary video card drivers installed for it to work. I am running Ultimate Edition 2.1 (based on Ubuntu 8.10), but you can do it in regular Ubuntu as well.
There is a TON of crazy stuff it can do. Have a look at this video (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=F1u2eF5PVho&feature=related) for a good show of a slightly older version. This is the video that got me interested in UE. The latest is 2.2 which I am currently having problems getting installed. Well, I got the 32bit version installed by accident, downloaded the 64bit and must have gotten a bad download and need to do it again. Will check the checksum this time. :p But you can check out other videos on the related links.
If Compiz is not installed you should be able to find it Synaptic package manager to download and install it. I do believe it should be installed by default though.
If you are to get sucked in by UE I will warn you that the Ultimatix repository is not up right now and hasn't been for awhile, so you will need to do things that it does yourself.
I am going to post a thread in the next day or two about stuff like this but fan control for your nvidia card can be done using "nvclock". Search for it in Synaptic package manager.

I completely forgot about that desktop! It has been at least three and a half years. Wish I could remember the name of the graphic, it was a mind blower. I got it off a "professional" artists' website (subscription required). That was Suse Linux 10 running SuperKaramba (a bear to configure) and on a wireless network (an even bigger bear). I'm running three machines now...Ubuntu Server 9.04, XP Pro, and Win 7 RC. Here's the Win 7 RC desktop...

Turn it on, if it doesn't give you any issues leave it on. If the system has issues turn it back off. There are some systems that have issues with HT. I had one myself. No matter what I did the system was unstable with HT turned on, so I turned it off. But if it doesn't give you any problems by all means you might as well use it.

I love this thread.
Were you on a mac, this summer, 123456? Wow, macs are neat, aren't they? And I see from your subsequent screenshots taken of your computer's desktops that you're a Photoshop user (CS 5). I'm a Photoshop user, too, 123456 - I have CS 4. Also I see you were using VLC for the mac. I use VLC on my netbook for playing DVD movies when I take it out and about (like to Barnes & Noble/Panera Bread).
Nice screenshot of that mac desktop with the blinds, 123456. Well, here's mine (for starters) of my mac's desktop.
http://i221.photobucket.com/albums/dd225/KellySt10/My%20Computer%20Stuff%20001/macdesktop.png
To date I have 2 PC's (Dell Dimension 8200 and a Asus Eee PC netbook) with a 3rd PC on the way (desktop) - all these PC's shall be my gaming computers; the mac I use for surfing the net (no viruses to worry about) my Photoshop, comic book work, and creating DVD slideshows in iDvd.
123456, what kind of mac was the above (yours) desktop screenshot taken from? My mac is a Macbook Pro, mid 2009.
Oh, I see you had that mac set up as a dual boot with Windows 7. Neat!

Yeah I have tons of programs on my mac... it's also a mid-2009 Macbook Pro, 15"
Forget iDVD, Final Cut Pro is where it's at. New desktop.

Wow, 123456! That's even better looking than what I've got! Where'd you find it? As for forgetting iDVD and going with FCP, I don't wish to edit movies - I'm perfectly content with my still images and comic book work. Also I might use these still images that I have used in a graphic novel series in iDVD to make a slideshow, I'm perfectly content with this - or if I don't have enough for a full sized 1 issue comic magazine, I'll use them to make a memory book at Walmart.
And yes, my macbook pro is also a 15 incher like yours is.

You can't revert to GNOME 2.x? I'm pretty sure you might be able to.

I am curious, how does one go about posting a desktop photo? (Acer 3450 with Windows 7). Thanks.

Press the PrtScr/PrintScreen button on your keyboard, go to Paint or any other image editor, and paste. Save the image, use an online uploader like http://imgur.com/ and paste the direct link using IMG tags.
