Hi, please I need some help here,
does anyone know if it is crucial, in order to avoid damage, the orientation of the front panel cable connectors to the corresponding motherboard pins? For example: the mobo manual tells me that a certain couple of pins are the power pins and are supposed to be connected to the cables coming from the soft power button on the front panel (that`s easy!!), however, I have TWO wires and TWO pins, which is going where? I have 50% chance to get it right but I don`t want to destry my new mobo (note: the wires are of different colors and the black plastic connectors at the end of the wires are: one with a small word that says “power” and the other says nothing).
Should I just TRY? can I use the same “TRY” philosophy with the pins for HDD led, power led and reset?
Thank you very much!

It would really help to tell us what type of motherboard you are working with ( Socket 7, Slot 1, Socket A etc). Your motherboard manual DOES have the wiring diagram in it somewhere for these connections!! Trust me!

The POWER and RESET switches do not have a polarity, so either way is fine. The LEDs for power and hard drive are usually configured with the white wire as the - connection. I have run across two that were assembled in the opposite polarity, but the only consequence was that they would not light up until the connection was reversed. Hopefully you can see behind the panel to see what the unlabled connector goes to.

1. Randy is correct, usually the motherboard has a diagram of those pins. That's the best way to go. You'll know which connector is which.
2. I've plugged in quite a few backward, and about the only thing that ever happened was the speaker/LED wouldn't work. Switches can usually go either way, and often but not always the speaker can go either way. Reid has that right, white/black is usually ground and the other color hot. Pin #1 should be marked on the board, and most have pin #1 in the same place for all connectors.

The manual says which is the poarity but i wasn`t sure about the cables coming from the front panel, there is no + or - on them. Anyway, i am more relaxed knowing that the reset and power cables can go either way and also that the leds just don`t work if the poalarity is wrong! The mobo is a FIC AZ11E socket 7.
thank you guys!

Just make sure you connect things one at a time. I connected my old board's LED's and switches last night, and got no picture...seems they were reversed, and I haven't seen that happen before. Connect the speaker first, and make sure you get a beep. Then the reset switch, check it. And so on.
I thought it would make no difference, but after last night I have to question that, the board I just took out of this machine won't work if the wires are backward, so make sure you add them one at a time, that way if one causes trouble you know exactly what it is.
