it's been 2 weeks now for this problem...it occurs on and off like once every 1 or 2 days...when i try 2 view a website my firefox keeps stuck on "looking up www.---.com" then it gives me a "server not found" page (even on internet explorer the same thing happens)...this happens to like 60% of the sites i try 2 view while others work perfectly, then 2 or 3 hours later the problem resolves itself, what could be the problem here and how can i solve it???
i'm using norton 360 and utorrent, shutting them off doesn't solve the problem...
plzzz help me on this one coz it's driving me so mad...Thanks a lot in advance :)

it is probably the page itself going offline or a node between you and the page that keeps going on and offline, making it so you cannot view the page..
this will also correct itself in a few days or hours

sir the sites i'm talking about are big sites that yahoo, hotmail and youtube (amongst others of course)...so it's not possible they go down on a daily basis, and yes they will correct itself in a few hours only 2 occur again 2morrow or the day after, that's what i wanna solve

that is a problem!
well, i am not exactly a pro, and those are big sites, so i doubt it is a link, or the page itself.
(though i myself have had this problem, just never with Yahoo, or any of the big sites- and it was usually a node or page itself that went offline...)

utorrent is your problem, it happens MANY times with torrent downloader....
I dont know EXACT fix to this, but when this happens to me i shut down utorrrent and restart both my computer and my router.
Your Utorrent is hogging your bandwith.... Chill a little with the torrents... you will see the difference...

no sir it's not the problem...and it's not bandwidth problem either, bcoz i pause all torrents and i shut it down and there's nothing changed...and anyways other sites open like so fast while those they don't even load, viewing my net connection there are no packets sent when i try 2 open these sites at that time...

try opening cmd.exe (AKA Command Prompt) using the run command on start
type in
tracert webpage_address_here when the page is doing it and see if there is a failure
also type ping webpage_address_here...

Sounds like it could be DNS failure. There are many malware apps that can cause this behaviour. If the problem occurs again I would ping the name as armyuk suggested. If it fails type nslookup yahoo.com or whatever name has the issue. The non authortative answer should be your ISP dns server. If another IP is listed it could be malware.

I have been battling with the same problem all night after an auto update of Firefox. Eventually uninstalled Zonealarm rather than try to fix it. Re-installed Zonealarm and all seems well now
