Hello friends,

I have a problem identifying some parts on the motherboards. Although the capacitors are pretty easy to identify, what are those other things around the cpu socket. I know some are resistors and others are voltage regulators, but which are which? I looked on your website and the information was great, but it didn't help me identify the resistors on my motherboard. Here is a pic of my motherboard http://www.iwillusa.com/products/photo/ka266.gif

I see the capcitors around my motherboard and spread out. Are the black things around the cpu the voltage regulators. What are those circular things with wires around them.

Thanks. Obviouslly I failed electronics.

The black things with three legs are FETs (field effect transistors) used as fast switches and the circular things are toroidal inductors. Both form part of the switching regulators.

Resistors can take a variety of forms, the most common being small tubes with color bands.

If you're interested in motherboard regulators, go to: http://www.amd.com/products/cpg/athlon/techdocs/index.html
and have a look at the AMD Athlon Processor Voltage Regulation Application Note.
