HI Folks,
I am still having some problems with my XP upgrade from 98se. The problems are this, the mouse and keyboard seem to hang or stop functioning for a bit, upon waiting, they resume. I upgraded over 98 without formating the hard drive. I am now considering a format an reinstall of the OS. I am thinking that I would like a multy boot system as I have some apps which won't run on XP. I don't have a 98 os CD, but I do have a WINCAB folder with all the files for a reinstall of 98 and also the product ID. Can I burn a cd with the Wincab folder and use the cd for a reinstall of 98? I thought I read somewhere that a XP upgrade allows the user to rollback to the previous OS, how is this done?

Thanks, Mark

Both install-overs and rollbacks are deprecated and not always successful or possible.

As long as you have the correct cab files and an appropriate product key then reinstalling Win98 from them should be straightforward enough whether those files are on a FAT partition or copied onto a CD. In fact any source which can be accessed from DOS running from anywhere - though usually from a Start up Boot Floppy diskette.

If you are going for a dual boot then it is best to partition the drive appropriately in advance (to keep 98 and XP as separate as possible) and to install Win98 FIRST. Then install WinXP (as a new and not an upgrade install) into its own partition. If done this way then WinXP will setup the dual boot menu for you.
