When one door closes, another opens (http://ati.amd.com/products/multimedia.html)...

ATI discontinued R&D on AIW's almost 2 years ago, but they funneled those efforts into stand-alone TiVo-like expansion cards. Turns out people wanted HTPC's without an expensive power-guzzling ultra-gaming vid card to go with it! Go fig! :p

Thanks saphalline, I'll get some kind of expansion card after I get my system set up. What kind of vido card do you recommend? I do a good amount of video editing and DVD burning? Or should I start a new thread? I'm looking to spend under $300

I'm looking to spend under $300Ahahahaaa! :D

If you won't be gaming, you don't even need to spend $100! No reason to spend more money on 3D performance that you won't be using! ;)

AMD did a wonderful thing with their latest lower-end vid cards - they made something that has additional substance for non-gamers! The Radeon HD 2400's and 2600's offer not just HDTV output capability, but also full HDCP compliance! These vid cards are also DX10 parts, so you can see Vista's new GUI in all its glory! And the average price for the low-end versions is under $100. What more could you want? :D

Check this (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814102699) out! Less than $80 shipped to your door, and it even includes the DVI-to-HDMI adapter. It certainly won't win any performance awards, and I wouldn't suggest trying to run any modern games on it, but if that's not your thing then no worries!

But saphalline, doesn't the video card play any part in the video editing process, meaning wouldn't a better card make video editing faster or something?

3 years ago, yes. It did matter. Vid cards back then were still trying to incorporate good 2D imaging and decoding functions to back up the CPU. Things like chaos-based noise reduction and improved 2D acceleration were first being explored.

However, DX10 changed a lot. And in fact, there is no more advanced 2D-based functionality for a vid card than what is included in that Radeon HD 2400 XT I linked to before. Not all your software is ready to use all of its features, but it will be there when you need it. Go DX10 or not at all.
