Missing - All Documents/Music/Pictures/Data Files/Turbo Tax Files/Outlook/More

On 10/01/07 my files were somehow changed or altered and I no longer have my documents, pictures, music, and several other files that I need. System restore is not working and I have lost approximately 15 GB of data. I use McAfee Total Protection and it did not find any viruses. Somehow my system configuration or registry was changed. I'm not sure if it is something I have done, but I need this data back. Can anyone help?

Recycle bin is the first place to look

second do a search for a keyword that is part of a known file name you used on the files your looking for

Do not install or otherwise make any changes to the drive you had the data stored on till you figure out what happened

They may have been moved, deleted, or ?
In any case you should be able to recover/find them

Do not install or otherwise make any changes to the drive you had the data stored on till you figure out what happenedI absolutely agree and if data recovery is critical then you must first stop booting to the system since every time the drive is accessed the greater the likelihood than any deleted files will get over-written.

The safest approach is remove the drive from the PC and slave it internally or with an external enclosure to another PC and run recovery software from that PC. GetDataBack (http://www.runtime.org) (for FAT or NTFS) as appropriate has had a lot of success by peeps here.

If GDB scans your system and finds your files you are halfway there and the next step would be to either pay for the full application or see if there is a cheaper way of recovering the data.
