hey folks. I have a Lexmark X3550 all-in-one printer, with the optional wireless card installed. I finally got it to connect to my access point (wireless router). Now the problem is getting my computer to recognize the location. I can connect to the router wirelessly, but them i'm stuck. can anyone walk me through what I can do?

I have a Lenovo Thinkpad with Lenovo's "Access Connections" program managing my connections, but I can go through Vista directly if that's easier.

Thanks!

see, the problem is, I already got the printer to connect to the router, but thanks anyway.

router info: manufacturer: Level One
model: WBR-3406TX

It's just your basic 802.11g wireless router. I can connect to it from my laptop, then i'm stumped. I don't see anywhere where I can find this printer. I tried to change the location of the printer from the default (USB001) but when I clicked find printer in Word I get "Active Domain Directory Service unavailable." I'm pretty stuck after I actually connect my computer to the router.

Have you printed a test page to confirm the router connection??

yessir I have. i put the printer's ip into firefox and connected to the printer's web-based setup, so I know it's definitely connected.

should I just be able to connect to the network wirelessly, and once I'm connected the printer shows up?

What I would suggest trying is to power cycle the router. Be sure not to push any reset buttons...just remove the power for about 30 seconds and plug back in.

If this doesn't work, I would suggest updating the firmware if you have not done so already. Don't know if you've the manual: http://download.level1.tw/level1/manual/WBR-3406TX(EN).pdf

You might also try these steps (http://www.microsoft.com/resources/documentation/windows/xp/all/proddocs/en-us/print_add_tcpip_port.mspx?mfr=true).

If you just have a printer connected to your network via its own print server "card" you won't see it via any "netbios" function (net 'hood or //printername command) unless it talks netbios. You might see it if you open your run box and type //printer's ip address.

In that case you will have to add the printer directly by following the above steps.

Good luck :)
