Hi, im new to this so go easy on me.
Ive just got a new wireless router (Buffalo wbmr-g54) and im trying ot set up my home network.
My computer and wireless laptop is recognizing the router and saying theyre connected but when i open up Internet explorer i dont get on.
Ive had a router before (different manufacturer) which broke and this has all the same ports at the back so i set it up the same as the old one, this is also the way the manual says, so it is set up right.
The ADSL light on the router is not lighting up/flashing or anyhting so i think this is the problem.
I hope someone can help me soon because its becoming a bit of a a pain with everyone in my house sharing the same computer.
If you need any more information just give me a shout
Thanks

Welcome to the PC Guide forums!
Which ISP are you using for your ADSL?
Did they give you an IP for the connection to the ISP's server?
Is this router on your ISP's approved hardware list?
Is this ISP requiring PPPoE sign-on, did they give you that information?

Im in England, im using virgin media broadband.
The router is from a shop not supplied form my ISP.
Dont' think theyv'e give me an IP for the connection to their server.
Don't think the ISP is requiring PPPoE sign on
As i say i have had a router set-up with the same modem, pc, and laptop but that stopped working.
When i took that router back they no longer sold it so i had to get this new one.

Call your ISP, you will need their assistance.

You can get virgin media broadband two ways:
1. By fibre optic cable (on cable)
2. Or down your phoneline (non-cable)
Depending on wich option you took your router needs to suit the connection type, 1. Cable or 2. ADSL to match your router (Buffalo wbmr-g54).
Also if you look in the manul for the router setup page address (IP or http//buffalo.setup - something like that) and enter that in the address bar it will take you to the setup page, admin and admin for user/password (defualt).
You should have a letter with from Virgin that contains info you may need to enter in the router setup page.

Ive got virgin broadband through the cable not phone line, does this mean the router is the wrong type for my modem and type of broadband.

The Buffalo wbmr-g54 (from searching google) ADSL router, not for cable connections. You will need to change the router for a cable one.
Your setup will be - Cable from Virgin to back of (cable) modem, then using Cat5 cable (should come with router) from (cable) modem into router.
Follow the router manual and setup cd, hope it helps.

lazorgen,
An encryption key wont help him setup an ADSL router on a cable connection.
