HOW TO CREATE AND POST A HIJACKTHIS LOG.

If you suspect your computer has been infected with spyware or you have been asked to post a Hijackthis log, please perform the following steps.

Click on Start-->Run-->Type MSCONFIG in the window and click OK.
Go to the General tab and click the radio button that says Normal Startup: Load all device drivers and services.
Go to the Startup tab and Click Enable all.

Create a folder on the C drive of your PC called HJT.
Go to Trend Micro (http://sourceforge.net/projects/hjt/) and click on Download Hijackthis Executable. Download the file to C:\HJT.
Click on the Hijackthis icon and choose the option to scan and create a log.
When the log appears, copy the contents to the Windows Clipboard by either:

Click on Edit, then Select All and then click on Edit and then copy.
OR
Right click in the Notebook window and Hold the Ctrl Key down and Press A and then hold the Ctrl Key down and press C

Return to the original thread and click Post Reply.
Place your cursor in the window and either:

Click on Edit and then Paste
OR
Place your cursor in the Window and hold the Ctrl key down and press V.

Click on Submit Reply
If the log is too large to fit in one post, please break it up into as many posts as needed.

Please make sure word wrap is off as it makes the logs more difficult to read if it is on.

Please post the entire log. Do not remove the header or any other information. An incomplete log may lead to ineffective advice.

Please do not submit the log by any other means than into a thread. Do not post as an attachment or by e-mail or private message.

DO NOT attempt to fix anything with Hijackthis without specific instructions to do so. Most of the items listed are necessary for the proper functioning of your system. Incorrect use of this tool can render your system inoperable.

Please explain HOW THE SYSTEM IS RUNNING. Indicate all PROBLEMS, ERROR MESSAGES or why you think the system is infected.

Just to add:
Please post the log in your own thread with the symptoms that lead you to believe you are infected. Do not post your logs in this sticky thread.

Addendum II:

Yes, it may be a pain in the posterior to post a long log in several pieces in multiple reply boxes, but those reading the logs have fairly strict quarantine procedures and will ignore any links to download anything from a potentially infected machine. That includes all files, text or otherwise, no matter where they are hosted. There is a very strong chance that instead of the log being read, the links to it will be neutered.

Pictures are also ignored. Besides being hard to read, it is impossible to copy and paste a file name from one.
