Virtual machine and Belkin USB to Serial adapter

Hello All,

I bought an Acer laptop which came with Windows Vista.
There is a card reader program that I have and urgently need to use but it is only available in the XP version.
Someone suggested I install virtual machine and XP.
I did this but the adapter is not recognized in XP......it is ok in vista, but as I said before the card reader program is only available for XP.

Any suggestions to help me solve this problem would be greatly appreciated.
