It seems that Vista can be a bit less tolerant when it comes to hardware changes forcing a reactivation than XP is...

One of the odd-ball (in my opinion) schemes that MS has come up with in the quest to thwart piracy has been Activation...and Vista's use of device drivers as the source of hardware info (as opposed to the hardware itself) is the most odd-ball of all.

Oh...my...God...

I'm not sure what else there is to say.
This is new info for me, and I have noted it.

...truly disturbing...

Where are all the 3rd party hacks to circumvent these Vista annoyances?
I would have thought that the talent out there on the net would have written some code to defeat some of this integrated garbage that Vista thrusts upon us all.

The poo will really hit the fan early next year, when MS stops selling and supporting XP, as the only LEGAL choice then, will be Vista, and ONLY Vista, if you want a Windows-based machine.

This is a GOOD THING for Linux, but most users don't tend to seriously consider Linux, which is a shame...
:(

Once nice thing to report at the end of my post is this: My local Jaycar Electronics store(Australia/NZ version of Radio Shack, essentially) uses Red Hat Linux on their store PC to process all the sales - including the trade accounts.
:)

I commended them for that!

Apparently there are changes underway to make the whole experience more user-friendly. We certainly hope so. It’s absolutely in Microsoft’s interest to make those changes as widely known as possible. We’ll post information about that once it’s available.
well, at least they are doing something about.
