I am new at this so I have a Q? about cd-r's. I have an Iomega 12x10x32 with related software. I have completed my first 16 track cd copy and it took 1 1/2 hours to complete. I used the inclosed cd copier software. Is this normal or have I missed something.

Here is a great FAQ on the whole CD burning experience http://www.fadden.com/cdrfaq/faq01.html
What kinda system you using? OS and hardware specs?

Hi!

Depending on the amount of data that needs to be duplicated, and weather it is an AUDIO or a DATA CD, then a few things come to mind:
* If the disc is an AUDIO disc, ensure that the CD-ROM you are copying from can EXTRACT DIGITAL AUDIO - an awful lot of older CD drives CAN'T.
If it can't, then use your CD-writer as a CD AUDIO reader.
Pretty much all CD-writers can read raw digital audio from an audio CD.
* If the disc is a CD-ROM, then it MIGHT be best to copy the entire CD to your HDD FIRST before burning a copy...
If the CD-ROM is having any sorta trouble accessing the data on the source disc, then the chances of buffer under-run(CD writer running out of data prematurely) are substancially increased.
If you copy the entire disc to the HDD first, then you can deal with any reading problems BEFORE you burn the copy.
In a nutshell, CD-writers DO NOT like being starved of data while writing a disc, and if this happens(data starvation, otherwise known as BUFFER UNDER-RUN), then the disc you are making then becomes a most excellent BEER GLASS/MUG coaster that you can get for free!!!!

Hi again!
:-)
Forgot to mention:
If you are using a slow computer(anything from a Pentium 100MHz up to a Pentium 166MHz), then you MUST ensure that you set the access speed of your CD-writer to no more then a MAXIMUM of 2x write speed, 4x read speed.
If you are using a P166 upwards, then you can safely write at 4x speed, but ensure that the recording program is the ONLY thing running, and dis-able ANY screen saver you might have.
If you keep the screen/S enabled, when the computer switches to the S/S after a few minutes, then the CD-writer can suffer buffer under-run due to the CPU thinking so hard about keeping the motion of the S/S going...
(in a war of resources between the CD-writer and a S/S, the S/S will win, and your disc will be corrupt - read: COASTER...)
Cheers!

Re: TIME TAKEN TO BURN DISC - it should take NO MORE then 40 minutes to make a 74 minute audio CD, with the burner set at 2x speed...

yes, thats about right. It takes me approximately 22 minutes to burn an 800MB audio cd. (4x)speed
