I needed some 'empty' R/W CDs for use in a computer class. I took 8 R/W CD's with old data and erased them, using the Nero software on my PC (5 years old, running Windows XP Home). When I tried to use the CDs on the 8 PCs in the computer class (all PCs were 2007 Dells, running Windows XP Pro and Roxio CD software) I got a message stating that the CD R/W drive did not have a CD installed.

Are CDs which were used on a PC running Nero burning software incompatible in a PC running Roxio, or am I doing someting wrong? I tried another erase, using the CD burners on each Dell PC and they still would not do a backup on 2007 Quicken Basic.

I'd appreciate any help here.
Thanks in advance.

I dont think you have done anything wrong as long as you did a full and not a quick erase. CD media both R and RW are fickle to say the least. All sorts of cross-incompatibilities can arise and its not easy to pin it down to the software, the media or the drives themselves. Examining the CDs (if recognised at all) with isobuster can sometimes help troubleshoot.
