Hey there every1,

Just want to be able to know how to tell the difference between a serial connector and a parralell one??

does the serial port have pins sticking out (ie like a male port)
and the female port has heaps of holes in it? (ie like female port)

Why is it that some serial pines have say 12 pins in them when they can only transfer one bit at a time??

Thanks guys

Yep, you got it the right way.
And, the parallel port is much bigger (25 pin-holes) as the serial only has 9 (pins).
The "extra" pins are used for controls of the traffic.
There must be a whole lot more information about them on the guide, under system reference, i think

In the pre-IBM days, PC's used to have 25-pin male and female serial ports and 36-pin Centronics printer ports. Thank goodness they all went the way of the dodo. Now you get two-way parallel communication (ECP, EPP) with fewer pins and less real estate.
