Well, this may not be anything new to lots of you in aviation circles, but I only just found this out - I thought they were all still endless-tape based...
Anyhoo, this is interesting, but if the memory on these "Stacked Memory Cards" is FLASH memory like you would find in a flash-disk, then it would have a limited life - very limited.
While it would work well for a while, the general consensus is that flash memory fails after a thousand or so read/write cycles.
As a CVR is constantly recording the voices of the pilots and the CAM(Cockpit Area Microphone), and constantly recording over itself, one would think that the memory chips would degrade rather quickly, due to the constant read/write cycles, leading to the potential for the CVR failing when it is needed most...
What do you guys think?
