Mac OS X 10.5 Leopard came out Friday night at 6pm!

Anyone else seen or played with it yet? Have you seen the online demo movie? Spaces and Time Machine and stacks?

Oh man, this one is a doozy! It's just... too hilarious! :D

It is just an update to os x with some new features ( like sp on win).

ts just that Apple makes this seem like a huge deal, and most people unfortunatly are tricked int believing this.

And what is Time Machine? - Its like System Restore + Backup like in xp.
What about Stacks? - Taskbar in win
What about Spaces? - Panels on linux

:D

I have never used a MAC in my life.

But, I was listening to the radio today and they said there has already been some major bugs reported. BSOD after install it, degrading Wi-Fi over time then if reboot its OK then degrades again. Something else but I don't remember what it was.

Sounds a lot like typical windows problems...

Ouch! Such harsh language! :p

Oh come on, you guys! Get with the spirit of things! It's Leopard!! It's the new best thing!

In all seriousness, though, it is not merely a Service Pack for Mac OS X. Service Packs for Windows typically fix problems! :p New point releases for Mac OS actually add features as well. And good ones this time around!

Time Machine = built-in back up program for a pay-for OS! If Leopard's Time Machine is a working car, then Windows' System Restore is a wheelbarrow with a flat tire! Don't even compare the two. ;)

Stacks = visualization of a file system, which is very useful for the stereotypical Mac customer! :p It's also a really cool effect, but more flair than anything else.

Spaces = rip-off of Linux standard GUI feature. However, Mac OS X is technically based on FreeBSD so I won't hold them to a blatant rip-off. It's more like they're really really late in adding a feature that Linux users have been using for nearly a decade. It's a nice Mac OS X addition, but overall it's kind of "ehh"...

Cover Flow = preview of everything in Finder! This is like the OMG feature of sucking up resources! When I first saw this, I was like "Ahh! All the RAM is falling into the Pit of Carkoon with Boba Fett!" It is really cool, though. Just one of those things where you see it and say, yeah right! PowerPC G4 867 MHz my @ss! You need the latest hardware to run this feature of Leopard and actually enjoy it!

Which brings me to my realization with Leopard. Kinda reminds me of another major pay-for OS release recently. Oh gosh, what was that?... ;) Let's see now. Tons of new features and 3D GUI effects. It has quite a few issues on older hardware. It adds things that suck up resources like crazy. Can't quite put my finger on it...

Hehe.

Hahahahaaa! :D

That's why I said "pay-for OS"! :p Besides, where does the resource-sucking come into play there?

You can pay for Ubuntu...if you order the disks from some stores...;) and while not as drastic as the other one, the latest release are much more resource intensive than in the past...but Compiz sure is pretty, although I kind of prefer my plain vanilla Slack...I don't know, maybe there are too many things to play with in Compiz...

Hehe. Maybe so. But it's not legal to not pay for Mac OS X or Windows! Thus the distinction.

Whatever you may want to think about Compiz, I'm afraid it just doesn't stack up to the competition! Whereas Compiz can make full use of 1GB of RAM, Leopard and Vista make you sorry for not having more! :p This is one area where the *NIX base is just too far behind...
