How can I stop Nigerian Spam emails?

Hi: I received Nigerian Spam email asking for $. I have no clue how they obtained my email address. I have never responded to these stupid emails and I have forwarded to abuse@yahoo.com. Is there any way I can prevent these messages from reaching my inbox? Thanks much.

Is there any way I can prevent these messages from reaching my inbox?There's an obvious tug of war being played by the spammers and those of us on the receiving end of this junk mail. There's huge profits to be made in spamming, or the perps would simply migrate to other things. I suspect that it would be startling to know the actual numbers of folks who have been duped by spammers. They expend great effort in finding our Achilles' heels to get us to respond...from fear you're private data has been compromised, to greed, to kindheartedness...no emotion hasn't been strummed. Organized crime in the US and abroad is now involved. The Nigerian Government has given tacit approval to spamming endeavors as a viable business for their struggling population.

Internet providers spend millions annually attempting to eradicate spamming...and obviously, they haven't been able to do so. So, what can we do?? Here's a start: http://email.about.com/od/spamandgettingridofit/tp/most_effective.htm

Also, send the phish to PIRT at CastleCops where they will work to shut it down and gather evidence for legal action... They are reported to have saved victims more than $150million over the last year...

I have never responded to these stupid emailsThat's good and you may not yet be on a spammer database for that reason. One method of spamming is to send loads of guessed or random email addresses and if you have a fairly common address (such as a name and number at a well known domain) you can get hit on easily enough that way, especially if the host does no spam filtering (an incomplete science in any case) of its own.

Please don't come here and spout delusions... A lot of us do not like Bush, but there are plenty of legitimate reasons to dislike him and want him out of office without making bizarre connections to Nigerian SPAM... There are also a number of legitimate reasons why so much criminal SPAM is coming out of Nigeria, China, Ukraine, Russia and so on without developing a conspiracy about our idiot president...

The suggestion that helping people move ahead technologically by providing computers is also quite ridiculous...

Last I heard, former Florida governor Jeb Bush is not and never has been a US President, nor was Jeb Bush's business partner a US President. Your quoted source also places the time of the named transaction in the first Bush administration, not the current president. Your quoted source also has not connected the dots to either of the Bush presidents, and has not connected spam from Nigeria to the pump transaction either.
Your argument is based on the "Dan Rather" school of documentation. Get a life.
