I have just gotten what I thought was a 64 meg DIMM PC100 module, but when I installed it the computer clocked it up to 256 meg! The label on the DIMM said 8X64 but I guess it was marked wrong. Is this a legitimate 256 meg module?

You can download a utility, called ctspd here: http://www.heise.de/ct/ftp/ctspd.shtml. It will tell anything and everything about your RAM. The site is in German but the program is in English. Basically if it tells you that it is 256MB and you have no problems (crashes and the like) then you got very lucky. Mislabeled RAM does happen but it is extremely rare.

this probably means nothing but 8 x 64 = 512....

If one of you all have the 'ctspd' utility handy, could you please pass on in my general direction? For some reason I'm not able to access the DL page.

hi cltek

I am going to GUESS you are using the AOL bowser??

that's why you can't access the page.. and if you are using TERRIBLE aol mail, then we probably would't even be able to send it to you via email.. switch to IE browser, and you will be able to get it. http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/smile.gif

**btw- I sent it to you via aol, lets see if they will let you use it .....
(hope you have winzip)

Right this may be of no help what so every but I'm going to try.
Can I ask what the spec of the computer is ie. is it a Pentium III.
Also is there any other RAM in the computer and are you put one stick in or more (prob not but thought I'd better ask). Interesting that you're being told you have too much memory, never happens to me...
