don't be sorry- its just that links help us little- that way we are not "guessing" what you are looking at.

now- what is this computer for? (Gaming, General, etc?)

It's not an extreme gammer, but would like to play a recent game or 2. Mainly for general usage.

ok i would change a few things

get vista Home Premium 64 Bit
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16832116204
$111.99

change the PSU i have not herd of "rosewill" so im not sure about the quality.. remember the PSU is the thing that gives the rest of your components power if the PSU goes so can the system so all the more reason to get a good quality one ;)
Thermaltake Purepower 500w
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817153052
$59.99

for normal everyday use a 8600Gt would be ok but if you decide to play a game it with it will suck... i recommend that you spend double on a 8800Gt and get 10x the performance
XFX 8800GT 512MB
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814150252
$269.99

what sort of games?

Be warned that Vista doesn't work with a lot of software! It's really only good at playing the latest games right now! See this thread (http://www.pcguide.com/vb/showthread.php?t=59650) for more info.

Rosewill is the in-house brand name for Newegg-commissioned hardware. They make their own stuff.

What's with the floppy drive? Do you absolutely need it? Pull one from an old system or just skip it entirely. They're useful for some things, but a modern 64-bit gaming system!? I haven't used mine in over a year. I'm pulling it for my new Linux system.

Other than that, ditto on what the others have said.

the 8 anything unless it is a 8800 sucks for gaming principals.
right now, the best card (for the price/performance ratio) on the market is the 8800GT 512MB (George has some specs/comparisons)

yes, i would go with a different power supply. i had a Rosewill 350 a while back. it died after about 6 months. go with a good name, for sure!

as you can see the 8800Gt kicks the 8600Gts's a$$ (i wont even go into how much it squashes the 8500,8400,2600,2400)

and only abit slower than the GTX
