Here's one for all you Übergeeks out there...
I've recently received my Plex-Writer 16x10x40 drive http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/wink.gif and have installed it. Ok, no problem there. Copying from cd to cd is working without a hitch.
When copying audio tracks onto a cd, during the 'write' process, the buffer is constantly fluctuating anywhere between the 0% and 100% mark.. I've noticed some 'hiccups" when playing some of the songs, not all but some. Also, some will cut off before the song is complete and go on to the next. I'm currently using Adaptec E-Z CD Creator, 4.0.3 I believe.. It's one of the latest.
Any recommendations?
Also, this is burning them at 16x speed or 12x... I havent tried any lower, figured I purchased a 16c burner, I wanna use it! http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/smile.gif
Thnaks!

Does the drive have burn-proof? If so, then what's happening is the buffer runs out, the drive pauses and then retsarts when the buffer is full...this is supposed to work flawlessly but in reality, you will usually notice a glitch where this occurred...
Try shutting down everything else on the puter when you burn, and leave it alone...you don't mention your stats, but a fast cpu is very helpful in avoiding buffer underrun...
If that don't work, you may have to lower the burn speed or live with the less than perfect results at 16X

Well, i assume it has this "burn-proof" that you mentioned, considering it is currently top of the line, other than the fact it's IDE and not SCSI.
I have shut everything off in the background, double-checked everything and covered my tracks. I'm also running a dual processor system, 800's..
256 MB of RAM, I really don't forsee there being anything with the system that is keeping it from burning correctly...

Have you tried copying to the hard drive and burning from there, rather than directly from the source CD? Supposed to help eliminate buffer under-runs. Also check Plextor's web site for any firmware updates. Even though the drive is new to you, it may have been manufactured some months ago.

Drive was just put on the market this month http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/wink.gif.
This is copying mp3's into .wav format then burning to the cd btw, so, I'm kinda confused as to why this isn't working...

There is a review at Storage Review (http://www.storagereview.com/)that kind of describes a similar problem and they seem to think that it is something with Adaptec's software. The reviewed drive seemed to slow down while burning audio cds with the Adaptec software. There are a couple of other problems that may be cleared up with future firmware updates.

Try getting your hands on a copy of NTI CD Copy. It has worked with countless discs and any problems I've had have been entirely my fault. You can get a trial version that last for 10 days at: www.tucows.com (http://www.tucows.com)

You said you were running "Dual" processors.......What OS are you running them on? If not on NT kernel, you arent utilizing both processors...for sure. If you are doing this on a Win98 SE or worse a Me machine, you might need to slow it down http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/biggrin.gif

Randy is correct, only an OS using the NT kernal can effectively utilize dual CPU's. If you're not running NT or win2000 the second CPU is basically a waste.
Try burning slower, even though the drives are supposed to work at higher speeds, they almost alwayswork better if you burn slower.

Am running Win 2K, so, I think I got that covered.. I did try running Disc-at-Once, that appears to burn without slowing down between tracks.. appears to have resolved it for now.. thanks for the suggestions, preciate it!
