I have gotten different statistics about the amount of space used for a hard drive partition and for
a CD. I am trying to determine whether all is well or something is amiss.
I am wondering about the amount of space required for File directory and FAT on CD & Hard
drives.
I copied a CD to a Hard Drive partition, but had some problems. System hung in the middle of
the initial mass copy operation. I used a utility (Ztree) to determine which files did not get
copied and then used it to copy the rest of the files.
I used My Computer and Ztree to check the contents of the CD and the partition. Space used is
reported as follows.
Ztree Statistics.
CD: 298,317,159 Bytes in 3876 files.
HD: 298,282,133 Bytes in 3877 Files.
My Computer Statistics.
CD: 303,628,288 Bytes
HD: 309,145,600 Bytes.
Do the above indicate all is well or something is wrong?
The extra file on the Hard Drive is a Recycle bin.
The Ztree statistics might be counting file space only, omitting the space required for the
directory and FAT, while My computer might be counting everything.
Does anybody know what is the precise meaning of the various statistics?
