Hi folks,
I stupidly downloaded 4OD so I could watch ugly Betty, and I have been jumping through hoops all last night and half of today.
Not only do they want Credit card details, date of birth and post code (to watch a FREE show) but now I'm reading on their forum that it's playing hell with lots of people's internet connections.
Life's too short - I'd rather just buy the DVD when it comes out!
So I went to control panel to Add and Remove, then to uninstall and it is not listed.
Then I went to Program Files, and again; no uninstall file.
Anyone know how I uninstall it please?
Thanks
Paula

go to command prompt, type the file codec:>program_files/4od/uninstall.exe
or something like that (i forget exactly how it looks)

How do I remove 4oD software from my PC?
• Open Control Panels
• Select Add/Remove software
• Select Change/Remove under 4oD.
Follow the instructions to uninstall 4oD from your system. This will not uninstall Kontiki which is part of the 4oD application. The Kontiki software is called Kservice and needs to be removed separately. Please ensure you are not using Kservice to access other video services before uninstalling it.
You could just delete the whole of the program files folder and then clean up after it with a "Cleaner" or with System Restore maybe.
But since the Kontiki software may be part of the problem you may need HijackThis or a "Cleaner" to remove other elements or to manually stop this service using the AdminTools SnapIn.

A really good way to eliminate installations...
Is to make image backups of the Windows/Programs partition [C:?]...
Particularly do this just before installing anything.
Then if there's a problem...
Or for any other reason you want it gone...
Just restore the image, and the partition contents will be just like they were when the image was made.
i.e. The installation will be GONE like it was never there [sometimes installations deliberately leave things behind whether you want that or not]. :)
You can't do that this time if you haven't made an image...
But you could work that way in the future.

I did your suggestion and it didn't work as my PC couldn't find such a file.
Paul,
As in my original post, it's not listed in Add and Remove programs. And I'm not bothered about Kontiki. It's ok to uninstall that too.
I can't delete my Program Files folder. I just spent the last two months re-installing all my valuable software. I only want to get rid of one program, not the whole lot.
System Restore may be an option, but I'd rather find other options first, as I did a day's work since I installed it.
Sylvander,
great idea, but a) as you say, it's too late for this time, and b) I wouldn't know how to do that, but I will ask once I've got rid of 4OD.
I now really want to get rid of it as it's added to my system tray and slowing my PC down. They're very sneaky you know - there is no icon - it's invisible til you hover over it.
Someone told me to download the set-up file again and I get the option to uninstall there. Is that right? It was a nightmare the first time round!
Thanks
Paula

I can't delete my Program Files folder
Not the program files folder but the 4od sub-folder inside it.
Reinstalling and uninstalling does often work.

It's OK - panic over! The installation file DID have instructions of how to uninstall it - Cool!
Sylvanda, do you know if your image making partition method is already explained on this forum, please?
It sounds perfect for the future, but I wouldn't have a clue where to start.
Thanks

Sorry Paul,
Only just noticed your newer post.
I misunderstood what you meant originally. I thought you said the 'whole of the program files folder'.No worries - it's done now.

"do you know if your image making partition method is already explained on this forum, please?"
Here and there all over the place, but not so easy to find particularly good examples of an explanation.

Here (http://www.pcguide.com/vb/showthread.php?t=57202&highlight=IforD) at post #2 also.
A good one here (http://www.pcguide.com/vb/showthread.php?t=52963&highlight=IforD) beginning post #4.

If you're still not sure of anything, ask again saying what.
