View Full Version : PCG "post reply" problem

This has happened twice to me in the last week.
I have written a reply and when I click submit, it tells me I am not logged in although I really am. And if I try to log in on the error message it tells me that my login in info is incorrect.
Subsequently, I can log out and log in again but my reply is lost and my "new posts" list is lost.
Any suggestions?

Which web browser are you using?
Are cookies enabled for the PC Guide?
Is your PC's clock set to the correct year/date/time?

The forum is working well, so it is probably your browser... You could try a different browser and see if that works better, if Sylvander's suggestions don't work...
In the meanwhile, if you get that message, use Back to go back to your post, Right click to Select All, then Copy and Paste into Notepad or simply leave in the Clipboard to Paste back into a Reply when you do get logged in... At least you don't need to reenter all the info again if you do that...

I've also had the "mystery" sign-in goings on... I will ask for my user name and password and thank me for logging-in...and when I answer and hit submit it asks me to once again log-in, which I do, and the cycle repeats itself...
I cannot remember if it was with the AOL or the Firefox browser that the problems existed. I usually use Opera and don't believe I've had any problems whatsoever with it.
Sylvander and Budfred's questioning regarding the browser I believe are accurate. You might want to try Opera if you have not done so already...

I too have noticed the site signs me out if I wait too long, seems to time out if inactive for a period, maybe 10-15 minutes.

Is your firewall or any other software blocking cookies?

I am often seemingly inactive for much long than that when I am working on logs and don't get timed out...
Again, I would clean out cache, cookies and so forth, then try again... Also, I would try a different browser...

Seems my 'Significant Other' (she who must be obeyed) GIVES me a 'time out' if I'm inactive for too long... :o
Realistically, working long hours, I can fall asleep on the couch and leave pcguide on my computer next to me for +/- 8 hours and not have any problem at all!
But I do recall a time when things like that would happen to me, mostly on dial-up and not sure if it was here, or more than one site where I am a member.

I agree with Budfred. I don't get logged off for the usual PC Guide inactivity... I will if I'm inactive when in the Moderator Control Panel.
This is something that happens immediately. I think it usually happens when I'm at the office computer answering questions...not at home. I'll pay a bit more attention to what's happening. In fact, I'll purposely try to post on the office computer and see what happens...

I don't see the logout as a problem, I see it as a "feature".
;)

Agreed. For the mod control panel it definitely is a "feature." What's happening during normal PC Guide usage...esta un problema! :(
