Hi im new, Ive been looking for a nice forum dedicated to PC stuff and i guess i found it.

Im always wanting to upgrade or rebuild my PC, its pretty much my hobby and pretty addicting. Im always trying to learn little things along the way so i guess ill start off with this.

Right now i have 2 gb (2 x 1GB) Ocz Reaper SDRAM DDR2 800 (PC2 6400)

Now would it be better to buy another 2gb of the same exact thing or better to go with two 2gb stick? Or would it just be the same thing?

Two more of the same would be just fine. And yes the same thing. The only difference is if you want to upgrade at a later date you will be forced to replace at least two of the sticks. But 4GB will hold you for quite awhile so I wouldn't worry about it. ;)

Future upgrading is unlikely, in my opinion-- by the time you need more than 4GB RAM, you'll be looking for a newer motherboard as well.

Having the 4x 1GB sticks will actually be better than using a pair of 2GB sticks because of internal memory management overhead. http://xs117.xs.to/xs117/07270/nod.gif

Thanks for both responses.

I should have posted specs and such in first post. Specs are in my sig, Im using Vista Ultimate. Not sure if that makes a difference.

My PC runs Awesome ATM but like i said its just a hobby so thanks for the help!

You know, if you were using XP Pro, you probably wouldn't need 4GB of RAM...
