I get a corrupt file message from Acrobat when I try to open a DRM locked file (which I have the password and have read several other DRM protected documents from the supplier of the files).

It seems odd, but their tech support is trying to point to anti-virus or network security. I was able to DL the file on another PC and open and unlock with Acro~Reader 6. I copied the file to USB drive and brouoght it into work and I get the same error dialog when opening with 8 pro...

I read this info: "Adobe Acrobat 8 continues to offer standard password security (for an explanation of standard security and its limitations, please see our whitepaper, 10 Questions to Ask Any Vendor of DRM Security Software for PDF). Adobe Acrobat 8 does not provide DRM or access controls such as expiration, limited printing, among other features of FileOpen products, except through the Policy Server plug-in and associated server tools, which may be licensed separately from Adobe."

So I installed Reader 6 on my machine and it works just fine on the same file. So much anti-virus and NW security...

Anyway, in this process, PDF files became dissassociated and I actually could not find PDF in the file types list, so I added it (XP Pro). But I did not like the icon so went to change it, but PDF is not in the list again. Now I discover that I can't change the icon anyway, for any program?

BTW, Reader 8 will not install because I get access key errors on install. I give up trying to get Help from Adobe.

Now I discover that I can't change the icon anyway, for any program? Is the "Change Icon" button greyed or does nothing happen when you click on the button or something else?

Rather than use the folder options to change the associations try right clicking on a pdf file and choose "Open with ..." and then select "Choose program". Browse to the version of Acrobat you want to use and ensure you check the box to "Always use the selected program to open this type of file". It might be a good idea to uninstall any versions (and updates) of Acrobat before beginning.
