hi i have a rather low end dell laptop (inspiron 1300) and have been wondering for some time if it is possible to upgrade the cpu?i only have limited knowledge on these things so feel free to poke fun!!!i could find out the make and model of the motherboard if that helps. i ask because i was looking to upgrade the graphics card but its got crappy shared graphics so it cant be done. now im paranoid that im stuck with the same piece of crap until i can afford a new system! i imagine it wont be a drastic upgrade if it is possible but i have bought some more RAM a while back and while it improved performance (it only had 256MB) i am looking for that little bit more. any bodys sage-like wisdom would be much appreciated, thanks

Welcome to the PC Guide forums.

The general answer to upgrading laptops is:
You can upgrade the memory amount to the maximum it can handle and you may be able to increase the size of the hard drive, but that is about it.

PrntRhd is right there usually isn't much room for upgrades in laptops. If you have onboard graphics there isn't anything you can do about it. And CPU upgrade choices are going to be limited to whatever CPU's they offered with the system, which usually aren't going to be worth the money it will take to do it.

What is your service tag number? With that we can see exactly what options you have.
