I recently purchased a new computer running Windows Vista Home Premium. I have a Konica Minolta Magicolor 2300DL hooked up as a network printer. I downloaded the current driver from the manufacturer's website. The printer is hooked to a five port hub which in turn is hooked to a Linksys wireless router. The wireless router is hooked up to a DSL modem. When I print something it takes about 2-3 minutes before the job actually gets to the printer. I also have an HP OfficeJet hooked up as a network printer. That printer has no problem and starts printing right away. I don't know if I have something configured wrong or what the problem is.

Any help will be greatfully appreciated.

How much RAM do you have installed? It comes with only 32MB but can be raised to 288MB which will help performance per the KM site.

(Look for supplies/accessories>Other consumables). 256MB RAM is $149 on their supply site)

Also remember this is a slower printer, 4 pages per minute in color and 16 in BW.
PDF files can be especially slow on this style of printer.
You may look for settings in the driver that allow the jobs to print directly vs spooling vs printing immediately. These should be in the ports tab area.

Is the HP monochrome or is it a color printer?

This is a color laserjet printer. I should add that the prrint job didn't take this long when I had it hooked to a Windows XP machine. I don't know if this makes any difference or not? Ever since I've hooked it to the new computer running Windows Vista, it about 2-3 minutes for the job to get to the printer.

Thanks

The problem is resolved. I reinstalled the printer driver and it seems to respond imediately.

Thanks for the replies.

I know this has been resolved, but perhaps others may like to know the details of this, as I have been suffering too.

Windows Vista does NOT see the network printer as a network printer.
As far as windows is concerned, a Network printer is a printer attached directly to the PC, but shared with others.

You have to install it as a Local Printer, but use the tcp/ip setting when presented with the port.
after this it's pretty much plain sailing - mine actually works now.

Now I wonder if MS would like to redefine the word Network as well - perhaps it means an MS PC is at the centre of the universe and everything else revolves around it.;)

Deddard,
Your information is correct.
For most brands of MFPs, a "local printer" is one with just a print controller inside. You cannot load the driver by clicking on the printer in Network Neighborhood, you must provide the appropriate print driver to the local PC/server before sharing it.
A "network printer" has a print server included that can provide the driver.

Both print on TCP/IP networks. The terminology is confusing sometimes.

I never did get my system to print correctly to this printer using it as a network printer. I finally gave up and went back to USB connection. Now it works fine. The only thing that's wrong is that I was defeated by a computer!

chiphead23,
Well, that printer does require special porting specifically in TCP/IP, the port configuration must be switched to Custom Settings>then LPR port with que name print in lowercase only. If it prints at all with a RAW port it will be really slow.

Ok so what is RAW? I have the same problems listed above- tried to set it up using a the netword settings- still has a problem printing- so went back to USB- is there a faster way for this thing to respond?

RAW port means port 9100 supported, the data is sent without formatting the job.

Most printers use RAW or LPR/LPD printing ports.
