i went to Encore Technologies site and downloaded the latest driver for my adapter, the ENLWI-G wireless PCI card.
these drivers offically support Windows 98SE but windows 98SE refuses to reconize that a network adapter is there, and when i try to manually install it, it wont let me.
so how can i remedy this?

comon guys, help me out here :(
What form are the drivers in? An exe? zip file? do they have an installer? just an inf file?

Just an INF.
when i right click the INF and click install
it fails.
How does it fail...with an error code or just not install?
I'm trying to remember how to force the install in 9x...
Does the device show up in Device manager? If so, have you tried using DM to update the driver, pointing to the inf file in question?

well
i go to add hardware wizard
then it searches for hardware,
it WONT detect my network adapter
It doesnt show up in the Device Manager
when i try to install it manually without it detecting it
it wont let me,
when i click on the INF to check all supported hardware by the file, the list is blank.
Try the card in a different machine/different PCI slot...it is beginning to sound like the problem is with the card, not Windows.

i know the card works because it works just fine in 2000 and XP
but ill try it.
Try a different PCI slot then...
98 does have problems with IRQ sharing and slot location is critical sometimes...

98 still was a no go on detecting it

Any settings in the BIOS Setup causing the PCI NIC to not be enabled or allocated resources?
Hence not being seen by Windows?
[I had this happen with my NIC once (needed to "Force Update the ESCD"), and it wasn't seen by Windows]
Hence, perhaps you need to "Force Update the ESCD"?
